Building collapse in Osun State claims 2 lives
A building in Osun State collapsed recently claiming 2 lives. This incident occurred on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. This building is a storey building which was still under construction. It was located in the Eweta area of Ikirun, Osun State.
4 people had been working in the Building on Wednesday when it suddenly collapsed and trapped them underneath. Some residents of the area were able to rescue them and they rushed the victims to the hospital. They revealed that the owner of the building and another woman were part of the victims and they passed away in the hospital.
The witness revealed that the incident occured in the evening around 7pm on Wednesday. They suddenly heard a loud noise from the construction site close by and rushed there. They discovered the building had fallen on the people there and were able to rescue 4 people. There were 3 females and 1 male.
On Thursday morning, 2 of the 4 victims died. They were all in critical condition when they were taken to the hospital the day before.
Some witnesses revealed that this building had been distressed for a long time before it eventually collapsed.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun state, Kehinde Adeleke, has been contacted and he has confirmed the incident.
She stated that the building was already been used as a church even while he was still being constructed. In her words “A storey building being used as a church collapsed yesterday (Wednesday) around 6.45pm. The church building is in the Eweta community in Ikirun. Our officer that visited the scene said the affected building was still under construction and some workers were working inside it when collapsed. Four people were trapped under the rubble. They were later evacuated and taken to a nearby hospital. Three women and a man were evacuated. As of this morning, Thursday, two of the victims have died. One of the deceased was the owner of the building.”
She also added that the victims are being treated in the hospital and they have sent word to the local government authority to seal the place off.
