For the past three years, there has been a rapid growth in the Afrobeats genre. Nigerian artists have now become the most sought after artists from the continent outperforming their African counterparts.

In recent times, there have been a debate about whether the Afrobeats movement is slowly declining, we are slowly losing the genre to the West and that Nigerian artists desperately seek the approval and validation of the West.

Mr Eazi, in a recent interview, weighed in on this point of view stating that he doesn't think we are losing the Afrobeats genre because Nigerian artists are doing more exploits than ever before.

He mentioned that Wizkid produced a major hit "Essence" before even featuring American singer Justin Bieber. He also said Rema has one of the biggest songs in the world "Calm Down" featuring Selena Gomez and the beat was made in Lagos by music producer London. He also mentioned that Ckay's Love Nwantintin was a global hit regardless of the fact that it had plenty of remixes.

He said American artists can jump on a remix and make it a bigger hit but the song still holds more authenticity with the source which is the owner of the song.

Mr Eazi hasn't retired from music. He just dropped a new album recently titled The Evil Genius. Apart from music, Mr Eazi is a serial investor and he also has a music production company Empawa where he signs and promotes artists. Nigerian singer Joeboy is affiliated to his label.
