The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched the bodycam for law enforcement operatives on Wednesday, at Lagos House, Ikeja.
The governor said there will be a three-day training in May for the usage of the body cameras, which after the training, security operatives will begin the usage of the bodycams. This is a welcome development in the state. As Lagos is the most populous state in Nigeria, hence crime rate is expected to be high and traffic offenders are also not left out.
The bodycam will help operatives record the live event and easy identification of offenders. ”Lagos State has strategically set the pace among other states in Nigeria to launch the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement officers
”The security challenges in different parts of the country are worrisome, but with proactive action, the use of modern technological tools, and a mix of well-trained and intelligent officers, we will successfully combat many of these challenges.
”With body-worn cameras, our law enforcement officers are better equipped to protect lives and properties, thereby, making Lagos safer for us all,”
The governor also said the bodycam will help check abuse of power by operatives. The bodycam will be worn by state-funded security operatives, such as LASTMA, KAI, Lagos state Taskforce, Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps officers.
