Manchester United have suffered a huge blow, with Luke Shaw picking up a muscular injury, which will see him become unavailable for action for a “few months”.

Shaw was substituted early in back-to-back games for the Red Devils against Aston Villa and Luton Town due to a knock.

Manager Erik Ten Hag revealed after the game at Kenilworth Road that it “did not look great” for Luke Shaw, having been pulled out at halftime for the game against the Villains.

A statement from Manchester United revealed that the Englishman has picked up a “muscle injury and will be out for an extended period.”

They added that more assessment will be done on the defender, but he is expected to be unavailable for action for a “few months”.

Luke Shaw now faces the possibility of missing the 2024 European Championships in Germany, with his place in Gareth Southgate's set-up in doubt.

The injury also puts Manchester United in a precarious situation, with the club having no recognized left-back to fill in the void for the coming matches.

The Red Devils loaned Alvaro Fernandez in the summer of 2023 to Granada, before subsequently loaning him to Benfica, with the team also halting the loan spell of Sergio Reguilon in January 2024.

Additionally, Tyrell Malacia also suffered a setback in his recovery from injury, with the Dutchman's return period relatively unknown.

This certainly implies that Victor Lindelof will be the likely option to deputize in Luke Shaw's stead for the coming matches.

Sofyan Amrabat has also been used in that position and Erik Ten Hag could also call upon him to fill that void.

Shaw has had to battle several injuries in recent years, despite appearing to have overcome the injury plague, which affected him during his early years at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw has made 15 appearances this campaign, scoring no goal and providing 1 assist in all competitions.

He is regarded as one of the best left-backs in England and the injury blow will be a big burden for Manchester United to bear.

Shaw joined the Red Devils from Southampton on July 1, 2014, for a fee of €37.5 million.

The 28-year-old has made 275 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 4 goals and providing 29 assists in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the Old Trafford giants return to action on Saturday, February 24, 2024, facing Fulham, in a Matchday 26 Premier League encounter.

Erik Ten Hag's side have had a wishy-washy season, and they sit 6th on the Premier League table, with 44 points from 25 matches.

They are aiming to finish in the top 4 and possibly win silverware this term, with the FA Cup being the only cup trophy available, having crashed out of the Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League in the early stages.
