Napoli Owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has broken his silence on rumors linking Napoli to former Roma manager Jose Mourinho.
Napoli have seen their Serie A fortunes take a downward spiral this season. The Neapolitans, who ended their 33 years wait for the Serie A title last season, are struggling to find their footing this season. They are 9th on the Serie A table with 31 points after 20 games.
After the Scudetto-winning manager Luciano Spaletti left the reins at the Diego Maradona Stadium, Napoli sought the services of former Al Nassr boss Rudi Garcia. United Garcia, Napoli slipped off the Serie A ladder and were summarily ruled of the title race. With a few games into the season, Garcia was shown the exit door with Walter Mazarri contracted to take over from the Frenchman.
Wazzarri kicked off his reign with a win but the team have been largely inconsistent under his watch with reports Aurelio is still scouting the market for a better hand for the job.
European football veteran Jose Mourinho, who was recently sacked by Roma following his less-than-stellar run with the Giallarossi, has been linked to Napoli. With his experience with top clubs in Europe, Jose Mourinho has been tipped as a viable option for Napoli but it appears Aurelio De Laurentiis is not keen on having the Portuguese as the Azzuri's new manager.
In a recent interview, De Laurentiis dismissed hiring Jose Mourinho as a future coach.
"Mourinho at Napoli is not on the agenda," De Laurentiis said.
"He's a great coach, very likeable, part of the history of a certain kind of soccer.
"His destiny will undoubtedly take him out of Italy, at least not to Naples," De Laurentiis concluded.
Napoli will take on Lazio in a crunch Serie A tie on Sunday, January 28 with Walter Wazzarri hoping to return the team to winning ways after Italian Super Cup final loss to Inter Milan.
