Against Nottingham Forest at City Ground, they were pegged back to default settings as they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Dominquez opened the scoring for the home side but Marcus Rashford cancelled out the lead. United ex-player Anthony Elanga stung his former club as he provided the assist that saw Morgan Gibbs-White scurried the home side into the lead again.

The game ended with United recording their ninth Premier League defeat in 20 games. It has been the worst Premier League campaign for the Red Devils since 1972, as per ESPN.

Speaking after the game, Erik ten Hag said he has a strong believe Manchester United will bounce back to winning ways despite the dismal start to the campaign.

The Dutch tactician said the team has been clearly inconsistent, putting up a strong showing against big teams but struggling against other teams.

'One thing is clear, we are not consistent. We can beat the best teams in the league but not the other teams,' the United manager said.

'We are showing against the top teams that we can go head-to-head. I am convinced and have a strong belief that we will improve,' Ten Hag insisted.

The former Ajax manager also seemed to absolve himself of any blame with United's difficult start to the season.

He maintained the squad lack depth due to a piling injury list that has limited his selection options.

He said;

"We overperformed last year and this year, we are underperforming. We have to do better. We know the reasons why it is not working. No team can deal with so many issues and injuries we have had. We should still have done better and we have depth in the squad, but when you have so many injuries, the depth is not enough."

With the defeat to the Tricky Trees, Manchester United have not suffered as much Premier League defeat as they did throughout last season.

The team will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Wigan Athletic on Monday, January 8, 2024.
