Pope Francis approves blessing for same-sex couples
The head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis has approved and instructed the Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples under the condition that they are not part of regular Church rituals or liturgies. He clearly reaffirmed that marriage is and should be between a man and a woman.
A document from the Vatican's doctrine office has provided a direction and explanation regarding the new development. It stated that marriage is a lifelong sacrament between a man and a woman but hinted at “the possibility of blessings for couples in irregular situations and for couples of the same sex." It further stated in parts that “this blessing should never be imparted in concurrence with the ceremonies of a civil union, and not even in connection with them”.
However, when two people who are in love ask for blessing, their morality shouldn't be strictly dwelled upon because no one is 100% perfect. Also, an exhaustive moral analysis shouldn't be a precondition to accepting to bless their union.
The document further stated seeking blessing is a means for people to increase their trust in God. The deliberate request for blessing is the gateway to seeking closeness to God. Such requests shouldn't be discarded because matters relating to seeking the Mercy of God are no small thing in today's world.
Therefore, "blessing is a seed of the Holy Spirit that must be nurtured, not hindered."
