Barcelona defeated Celta Vigo at the Balaidos Stadium to return to winning ways after a 3-3 draw with Granada in their last game.

Robert Lewandowski scored a brace with his second goal coming at the stroke of the end of the game to hand Barcelona all three points.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Barcelona so far this season with the team edging on the brink of a trophyless campaign.

The Catalans lost the Spanish Super Cup to Real Madrid, crashed out of Copa Del Rey with a defeat to Athletic Bilbao, and are miles away from the La Liga title race.

Despite announcing his decision to leave the club at the end of the season after a 3-3 draw to Villarreal in La Liga, Xavi Hernandez still came under pressure as Barcelona kept drifting off the La Liga title race with Real Madrid and Girona opening astonishing gaps above them.

Against Celta Vigo, fans expected nothing less from a win but it was another tricky tie for the team who have only managed just a win from their last 8 games against Celta Vigo.

It was a tight affair as the two teams locked horns at the Balaidos Stadium. The first clear chance came for Barcelona in the 12th minute when Roque found Lamine Yamal. Yamal darted down the left and then cut in with a cross but Celta Vigo goalkeeper Guaita saved it with ease.

Barcelona dominated proceedings going forward with Celta Vigo dropping deep to defend while occasionally hoping to counter with speedy offensives.

In the 14th minute, the hosts got their chance to race into an unlikely lead. Aspas found Larsen after Celta won the ball close to the halfway line. Larsen braved into the Barcelona area and fired on goal but Araujo blocked the ball.

The first half nearly ended barren before Barcelona came up clutch with the opener just at the stroke of the break. Lamine Yamal had found Robert Lewandowski inside the area. The Polish striker wasted no time firing a thunderbolt pass Guaita to give Barcelona the lead.

Barely 90 seconds into the second half, Celta Vigo scored the equaliser pegging the visitors to a 1-1 draw. It was a lucky goal but created from a brilliant buildup play. Larsen had found Mingueza with his back-heel pass, who found Aspas. Aspas then fired on goal and had the ball deflect off Kounde, wrongfooting Ter Stegen, and looping into the net.

Barcelona ramped up efforts to race into the lead again after Celta's equaliser. It nearly ended 1-1 as Celta Vigo held off the visitors with a resilient defensive display to keep the score tied. In stoppage time, their hopes of salvaging a point was dealt a big blow when Beltran clipped Lamine Yamal in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Robert Lewandowski's first attempt was saved by Guiata but VAR called for the spot-kick to be retaken as Guiata seemed to have stepped off his line before saving the spot-kick.

Lewandowski took it again and this time he scored to race Barcelona into the lead again. It ended 2-1 at the blast of the final whistle with the Catalans running out with all 3 points at the death.

The victory has seen the team close the gap on Girona in second place to 2 points and 7 points away from Real Madrid at the top. But the two teams have a game in hand.
