Nigeria is one of the most populous countries in Africa and has been one of the most politically volatile countries on earth since independence. In 1999, Nigeria returned to civilian rule after 16 years under military rule. Since then, it has been ruled by two political parties: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC). Both parties have traded power at the presidential level with each other over time but there are also other political parties that could become relevant if they were to win power.

The Nigeria incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, is currently in his second term, however, Nigerians are already asking who will win the 2023 election.
The Nigeria incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, is currently in his second term, however, Nigerians are already asking who will win the 2023 election. Buhari has been in power for two terms. According to him, no one should stay longer than two terms in office since it would be unfair to other candidates to run against an incumbent president or government official who can use all the resources at their disposal.

The opposition party has already announced that they will field a candidate for the 2023 election and people are looking forward to seeing who would be running on behalf of this party next year.

PDP and APC have been trading power at the presidential level, with other parties occasionally winning seats in state assemblies or national parliaments.

There are no restrictions on voting or running for office based on gender identity or sexual orientation. This has led to a number of openly LGBT candidates running for public office during elections across Africa, including Nigeria’s 2019 general elections where several LGBT candidates ran for seats throughout Nigeria. In particular, these include Wilfred Ndidi-Ekeremor who ran as an independent candidate representing Lagos State House of Assembly constituency 45; Wilfred Ndidi-Ekeremor has previously served as a co-chairperson of Alliance For Truth Foundation (AFT).

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was a former Vice President of Nigeria is a stalwart of the PDP and is one of five potential candidates for the PDP in 2023.

Atiku Abubakar, one of Nigeria’s most popular politicians has been touted as a possible candidate for presidential election in 2023.

The former vice president was born on October 27 1950. He attended Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Law degree in 1973. He also attended Harvard University on an African development scholarship where he obtained his masters degree at Harvard University before returning home to establish UBA law chambers with other lawyers including Chief Gani Fawehinmi and Chief Bola Ige among others.

Others include Aminu Tambuwal (Governor, Sokoto State), Ahmed Makarfi (Former Governor, Kaduna State), Sule Lamido (Former Governor, Jigawa State) and Bukola Saraki (Former Governor and Senate President).

The inclusion of a seven-year political experience requirement in the Constitution has made most of these politicians ineligible to contest in the next election. However, there are still ways they can participate in politics without necessarily running for office.

As for the APC there are also five top contenders for their presidential ticket. They include Bola Ahmed Tinubu (National Leader of the APC).

Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which recently won power at the federal level and in most states in Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari's leadership. He was governor of Lagos state from 2007-2015 and has been an active member of Nigeria's political scene since 1993 when he won his first election to represent Lagos Island constituency 1 in Lagos State House of Assembly. Today, he serves as national leader or chairman of his party as well as chairman/CEO of First Bank Plc where he has worked since 1976 after graduating with a BA degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State Nigeria

Amaechi is a former governor of Rivers State, Babajide is a former governor of Lagos State, el-Rufai is a former governor of Kaduna State while Bello was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2015.

These two political parties have been trading power at the presidential level. However, it should be noted that it isn't impossible for other political parties to win power.
These two political parties have been trading power at the presidential level. However, it should be noted that it isn't impossible for other political parties to win power. The Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) are some of the smaller parties to watch out for in this election.

Conclusion
It is true that there are other political parties that can contest the 2023 election. However, they have not had any success so far.

It looks like Nairaland is feeling the heat. “
I hereby BEG all politicians to allow Nairaland to be neutral, so that we can survive as the asset to Nigeria that we are. We can't be seen as favouring any party.
Also, please drop the attitude of "if we can't control them then we will have to DESTROY them". It's very unfair. “
