1. Fernando Torres v Man. United (2011/12)
In no particular order, first on the list is Fernando Torres' miss against Manchester United in the 2011/12 Premier League season.
3-1 down against Man United, off a pass from Ramires, all he needed to do was to kick the ball into the empty net to make it 3-2 and give his team a glimmer of hope. Instead, after going past the goalkeeper, Torres lost control of his feet and sent the ball into the stands, a bad day for the Spanish Striker.
2. Darwin Nunez v Luton Town (2023/24)
No prizes if you guessed right on this, Darwin Nunez makes the list. The Liverpool striker has been somewhat unlucky when it comes to scoring sometimes.
He holds a record for hitting the bar four times in a match, against Chelsea this season.
However, he didn't make this list due to his misses against Chelsea but against Luton Town.
It was a difficult match at Kenilworth Road. Salah squared the ball just across the face of the goalpost to Nunez who had just one job, but as little as two yards out or less, the ball was blazed over the bar. Luton eventually scored but Luiz Diaz eventually rescued a point for the Reds.
3. Shane Long v Bournemouth (2018/19)
The man who holds the record for the fastest goal in the Premier League is also not excluded. Shane Long missed a glorious chance against Bournemouth in the 18/19 PL season, his goal could have given his team a 4-e Victory.
Shane Long was presented with a pass from Ward Prowse and was through on goal, his first shot was saved and parried back to his legs but he just couldn't direct his legs goal-wards as his second attempt hit the woodwork.
4. Erling Haaland v Man. United (2023/24)
Also on the list is the current Premier League top scorer, Erling Haaland, who failed to take his tally higher in the Manchester Derby.
Manchester City was 1-0 down and Haaland was presented with a golden opportunity after being put through on Goal by Phil Foden. All he needed to do was to either use his head or keep his foot low.
However, somehow the one-time effort was blazed over the bar. Anyway, Haaland eventually scored the third goal for City as they ran out with a 3-1 win.
5. Maxi Rodriguez v Chelsea (2010/11)
Going Back to the 2010/11 season where we saw another big chance missed. It was Maxi Rodriguez for Liverpool up against Chelsea.
He could have had himself to blame if his team didn't eventually win by 1-0. Rodriguez was set through on goal by Steven Gerrard but his finish was poor as he struck the crossbar.
6. Nwankwo Kanu v Middlesbrough (2004/05)
Next on the list is former Nigerian international, Kanu Nwankwo against Middlesbrough back in the 2004/05 season.
The captain of West Bromwich Albion then had a chance to rescue a point for his team at the Hawthorns as they were 1-2 down.
A pass across the face of goal from Geoff Horsefield needed a simple tap-in by Nwankwo Kanu who was waiting patiently at the back post but surprisingly the ball went over the bar, nearly a yard out.
7. Sergio Agüero vs Chelsea (2018/19)
The list also includes Sergio Aguero's iconic miss against Chelsea in the 2018/19 season. Chelsea under the tutelage of Maurizio Sarri then took the match as a final, according to Sarri but it didn't end up like a final.
Not long into the match, Sergio Agüero was presented with a sweet chance off a pass across the face of a goal from Bernardo Silva. But his finish was far from what you would expect from a player of his caliber.
However, Aguero later went on to bag a Hat trick, with City winning by 6-0 at the Etihad.
8. Patrick Bamford v Leicester City (2022/23)
Patrick Bamford also makes the list. In a relegation dogfight between Leeds United and Leicester City in the 2022/23 season. Both teams needed a win but only one of them could get it.
It looked like Leeds would be getting it when Patrick Bamford was to pounce on a loose ball off a corner kick. Bamford waited at the Back Post to send the ball home, unfortunately, his effort went agonizingly wide.
Dismay for Leeds United who eventually got relegated, together with their opponents, Leicester City.
9. Ronny Rosenthal v Aston Villa (1992/93)
Now going back in time, to the 1992/93 season, the inaugural Premier League season.
It was Ronny Rosenthal of Liverpool up against Aston Villa. The Liverpool striker had already dribbled past the goalkeeper but from point-blank range, 1-v-1 against the Goalpost, Rosenthal hit the frame of the goal.
10. Raheem Sterling v Burnley (2017/18)
And to round it all off, is Raheem Sterling's miss vs Burnley in the 2017/18 season. If he had scored the goal, City would have won 2-1 on the day.
It was a pass across the face of goal from Kyle Walker but Sterling at the back post sent the ball wide off goal.
Sarcastically, Missing such chances in Football should be classified as a crime. However, it is a prove that no player is perfect.
