2 kidnappers killed by police in Enugu, victim rescued.
Officers of the Enugu State Police Command have killed 2 kidnappers in Enugu State. The officers have also been able rescue a kidnapped victim from their clutches.
The police had killed 2 members of a kidnapping gang who had been operating in the state. The rescue operation had occurred on the 20th of Qugust 2023 which was on Sunday. This was around 8pm.
They revealed this in a statement which they shared on Monday night. It was the spokesperson of the command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe who revealed this.
They revealed that these kidnappers were shot dead during a gun duel with the Police. After this, the victim was then rescued.
He also revealed that the operation was carried out by a combined team which consisted of some police operatives and Tactical Teams of the Enugu State Command.
The statement which revealed this read “A combined team of police operatives drawn from the NPF Special Forces, Awkunanaw Police Division and Tactical Teams of the Enugu State Command, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olasoji Akinbayo, on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at about 8 pm, rescued a male kidnap victim (names withheld) at Centenary, along Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, after a gunfight with the hoodlums"
It continued “One of the miscreants, simply identified as Baron, was neutralised on the spot in the ensuing shootout, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. The victim’s black-coloured Lexus 350 Jeep was recovered alongside 1 locally made revolver gun loaded with for 4 cartridges and another locally fabricated pistol belonging to the criminal elements.
It also revealed that as they continued in pursuit of the other gang members, they discovered the second body of the kidnapper who has been identified as Chukwunonso.
The statement also revealed “The two neutralised members of the criminal gang have been on the criminals’ watch list of the Command, while the operational success was due to the Operatives’ swift response to a distress call on the kidnap of the victim, along Agbani Road Enugu, in the said night.”
The Commissioner of Police, Uzuegbu have commended the police Teams for their efforts.
