2 men have been arraigned before the court in Lagos state for stealing wood worth a sum of N6 million.

It was the police command in Lagos who arraigned these suspects before the Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta in Lagos. This incident took place on Thursday which was yesterday.

These men have been identified as William Offor and Syprien Azangbe. They had allegedly stolen wood which was worth N6m.
A 2 count charge has been read against them by the police and this was on charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, who is the prosecutor, revealed to the court that these defendants and some others had conspired to commit this offence.

The wood which they stolen belonged to 2 persons who have been identified as Olanrewaju Tajudeen and Akudo Omotayo.

They committed this crime on the 19th of July 2023. This was at No. 150, Abeokuta Street, the Ebute-Metta area of the state.

These men pleaded guilty to the first count charge read against them but pleaded not guilty to the second count charge.
The charges had been read and translated to them in Yoruba language.

The defendants counsel, S.R. Makanjuola, pleaded with the Magistrate, Folashade Kayode to allow them to take their plea again. He claims that the defendants did not understand the charges read against them and this had made them plead guilty to the first count and not guilty to the second count.

The magistrate then granted this and the charge was read again and this time they pleaded not guilty to these charge.

Magistrate Kayode then granted them both bail of a sum of N500,000 each. This is alongside two sureties each in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till the 20th of September, 2023. This is when the trial will commence.
