Andre Onana is on the verge of losing his starting berth at Manchester United as he prepares to join Cameroon for 2023 AFCON.

Andre Onana is at risk of losing his starting berth at Manchester United as he prepares to join Cameroon for 2023 AFCON.

Onana is Manchester United first-choice goalkeeper and has started all United Premier League and Champions League games.

Futballnews understand Erik ten Hag wanted the Cameroonian to continue with the team as he is the team's first-choice goalkeeper as the club will be short of options when he leaves for AFCON.

According to sources close to Manchester United, Erik ten Hag is considering handing Man United's second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir a starting role when Andre Onana leaves for AFCON.

ten Hag is said to be a big fan of Altay Bayindir and will not hesitate to retain him as Man United's first-choice should he impressed on his shift while Andre Onana leaves for AFCON.

ten Hag signed Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce in the summer and has not handed him a starting role in the Premier League and Champions League as the Dutch is yet to come to terms with his capacity for a first team role compared to Andre Onana.

Former Man United goalkeeper David de Gea was linked to Old Trafford return on a short-term deal due to Andre Onana's imminent absence. However, it is understood Erik ten Hag doesn't fancy de Gea's return and is ready to hand Altay Bayindir a chance
