Mohamed Salah has broken his silence following criticisms of his loyalty to Egypt national team.

It has been a difficult few days for Mohamed Salah following a hamstring injury that grounded his AFCON campaign with Egypt national team.

Salah was injured in Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana in their second AFCON group game. Egypt Football Federation issued an update on the injury revealing he will be out of AFCON action for two matches.

Following the injury the former Roma player quit AFCON, traveling back to Liverpool for his treatment. His premature AFCON exit has been met with a heavy backlash from Egypt fans and legends, who have questioned his commitment to the national team.

Reacting to the criticisms, the Liverpool record goalscorer took to his social media to reiterate his commitment to the national team, adding he will return to the tournament when he recovers fully from his injury.

He wrote on X,

"Yesterday I started the treatment and rehabilitation program and I will do everything possible to be ready as soon as possible and return to the national team as was agreed upon from the begining."

Salah scored the equaliser for Egypt in their 2-2 draw AFCON opener against Mozambique. The prolific attacker scored with the last touch of the ball, converting a spot-kick to salvage a point for the Pharaohs.

He played for 40 minutes in the second group match against Ghana before being hurled off due to the injury.

Meanwhile, against previous reports he will miss two matches, his agent Ramy Abbas has confirmed the injury is more serious with the player set to miss as much as four weeks of action.

There are still optimism he could be back to AFCON if he recovers early. Egypt set up a round 16 clash with DR Congo after finishing as runners-up in Group C with 3 points. The 2021 finalists will hope to progress to the last 8 of the tournament when they take on The Leopards on Sunday, January 28.
