Following the just-concluded 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the list of the players who stood out in the competition in Ivory Coast.

Through its Technical Study Group, the African Football governing body took to its X (formerly Twitter) to announce the list on Wednesday, February 14.

In what was regarded as the most outstanding AFCON in history, the hosts, Ivory Coast, were crowned winners after a mind-blowing performance in the final in which they secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria on Sunday, February 11.

Hosts Cote d’Ivoire, the new African champions, have three names in the Best Xl: Ghislan Konan, Jean Michael Seri, and Franck Kessie. Kessie’s goal in the final helped the home side to secure the title.

Nigeria, who were the runner-up, also have three names on the list: Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman.

South Africa, who were seen as underdogs before the tournament but journeyed gallantly to a third-place finish have goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams and midfielder Teboho Mokoena in the lineup.

Ronwen Williams made history when he saved four penalties in one match during the competition to become the first goalie to do so in a competitive tournament.

It was also a memorable tournament for Bafana Bafana, who finished third, their greatest result in 24 years.

DR Congo who finished fourth place, also had two names: Yoane Wissa and Chancel Mbemba.

Equatorial Guinea was represented in the team with the inclusion of the top scorer Emilio Nsue.
