4 Nigerian Health Workers sentenced to Jail over Abuse of 89-Year-Old Patient
In a recent development, 4 Nigerian health workers have been tried over the Abuse of a patient. These health workers have been sentenced to jail over the abuse of a patient who is 89 years old. This incident occured in the United Kingdom. These Nigerians have been jailed in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. The arrest came after these health workers was seen in a video abusing an 89 year old patient.
The abuse wasn't just physically but also emotional abuse as well. The abuse was on an elderly patient. The police revealed that this incident occured at a Wolverhampton care home. The patient is suffering from vascular dementia and cannot speak. The woman's family had installed a camera secretly and recorded the abuse. The family did this after the began noticing bruising in the woman's arm. By this time, she had been in the home for a year. They also noticed she was scared to be touched and was nervous around people.
The family had to set up this camera to investigate and this was In February 2020. They recorded footage from 4 days and saw that these health workers were abusing this woman. They would treat her roughly and hit her. They then reported the abuse to the home and the home dismissed three members while the others were suspended.
The culprits have been identified as Ame Tunkara, Morounranti Adefila, Danny Ohen and Bridget Aideyan. They were all found guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court and were then sentenced to jail.
8 of these health care workers were charged and 4 were found not guilty. This was after a trial was conducted. Ame Tunkara, who is 33 years old & Morounranti Adefila, who is 43 years were jailed for 4 months while Danny Ohen, who is 39 years and & Bridget Aideyan, who is 49 years old were jailed for 6 months & 4 months. Sadly the woman later passed away in October.
