5 men electrocuted to death in Rivers State while trying to mount Billboard
5 men who were trying to mount a billboard in Rivers State have been electrocuted to death. These men had been trying to put up this billboard at Obiri-Ikwerre axis of Rumuosi located in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State.
This incident occurred yesterday, Monday August 21. 5 men were electrocuted to death while another 4 sustained serious injuries.
There were 9 men in total who had been trying to mount the billboard when this happened.
This billboard was a big outdoor advertisement board. It had a metal frame which had reportedly touched a high-tension cable, and this caused a spark that led to 5 men being electrocuted to death and the other 4 hospitalised. As soon as the metal component of the billboard touched the cable, it conducted current, and caused a spark.
The other 4 who were injured had sustained serious burns which are life threatening. They were immediately rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The spokesperson of the Rivers state police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko has been contacted and she confirmed this incident. She described it as an unfortunate incident. These men were hired by a church to mount the billboard. They were private businessmen.
The spokesperson revealed that an investigation has commenced into the case to determine what exactly happened
