The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon settled for a dramatic 1-1 draw with Guinea in a dragging and lackluster AFCON opener.

Guinea nearly pulled an upset when they suddenly raced into the lead in the 10th minute. Cameroon stepped up their game after trailing by a lone goal.


Wielding over 70% of the ball, the Indomitable Lions failed to make their dominance count as they struggled to break down Guinea's defense.

It was Guinea still leading by a lone goal with few minutes left in the first half. At the cusp of the final minutes, Guinea were dealt a heavy blow as Kamano was sent off.

Cameroon leveraged their numerical advantage to dominate proceedings in the second half. Guinea committed several bodies backward trying to defend the lead.

Six minutes into the second half, Magri scored the equaliser for the Indomitable Lions, thanks to an assist from Nkoulou.

After the equaliser, Cameroon continued with their dominant display but could not find the back of the net again. Reduced to 10 men, Guinea did little to go forward.

With most of the game played in their half, they held on with low blocks and resolute defending as Cameroon continued mounting pressure.

The Indomitable Lions fired 13 attempts trying to take the lead but had only 2 shots on target. With a few minutes left to play, Guinea defied the odds and held on to salvage a point despite playing with one man down. It ended squares with both sides settling for a 1-1 draw at the blast of the final whistle.
