The governorship primaries for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State have concluded, with Kefas Agbu emerging as the party's flag bearer.

The incumbent chairman of the PDP in Taraba is the candidate. Agbu, who is said to be the anointed candidate of former Chief of Army Staff Theophilus Danjuma Agbu, ran against four other candidates in the election.

While one of the candidates, Victor Bala Kona, had previously stated his intention to boycott the election, agents for two other candidates were also seen avoiding it.

Agbu, who entered the race at the eleventh hour after nomination forms had been sold and aspirants had been screened, was reported to have received 443 votes, defeating his closest rival, who received 438 votes.

The total number of votes cast was 522, according to the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Kabir Bappa Jauro. "Free, fair, credible, and transparent," he said of the primary.

"Taraba people are committed to voting a candidate who will continue the good work the incumbent governor is doing," Agbu said in his acceptance speech.

"We all need each other to triumph at the general polls in 2023," he said, urging his supporters and state residents to refrain from using provocative language against aspirants who did not make it.
