Roberto Garnacho, the brother of Manchester United winger, Alejandro Garnacho, has debunked a statement made by Rio Ferdinand on Lionel Messi unfollowing the youngster due to his love for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Roberto expressed emphatically that such statements were fallacious and were only being made up to create hate between Garnacho and Messi.
Alejandro Garnacho, who scored a worldie against Everton on Sunday, November 26, 2023, and celebrated with Ronaldo's “Siuu” celebration style is a burgeoning footballer.
Roberto Garnacho took to X, (formerly known as Twitter) to state that the Argentine winger loves and admires both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Earlier on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, footage surfaced online, which showed legendary England defender Rio Ferdinand making a fascinating revelation of what Garnacho allegedly told him.
Ferdinand expressed that Alejandro Garnacho came to him and told him that due to his love for Ronaldo, Lionel Messi decided to unfollow him.
Rio Ferdinand said: “You know what I like about him? He doesn't give a f***...Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo.
“He comes out, don't care, “I'm a Ronaldo man”. Who's the GOAT (greatest of all time)? Ronaldo. (Even) when he's in the Argentina squad.”
However, as aforementioned, Garnacho's brother, Roberto, has squashed the statement made by the 45-year-old.
Roberto Garnacho wrote: “Fake, Messi never followed him, stop making stuff up just to create hate, garna loves and admires both of them and you all Trying to create a rivalry.
“I’ve even seen videos of Messi showing the World Cup to Garna, mate if u knew how we celebrated it at home."
He added that his reaction to the allegations was not to spite Rio Ferdinand but to correct the incorrect information being spread around.
Roberto added: “Wow, This isn’t even targeted to Rio specifically it was just the incorrect info on Garna’s name about this from many people in general, wanted to just make it clear!”
Alejandro Garnacho is one of the few lucky footballers to have played alongside arguably the two greatest players of the modern era - Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Garnacho has in the past made it known that Ronaldo is his idol and has over time even done things like the Portuguese star.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have an age-long rivalry, that will possibly even continue even when they retire from the round leather game.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho has made 53 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions.
The 19-year-old made his debut for the Old Trafford club on April 28, 2022, in a Premier League encounter against Chelsea, which ended 1-1. He was aged 17 years, 9 months and 28 days.
Internationally, he has made only 3 appearances for Argentina, scoring no goal and providing no assist in all competitions.
