Alex Iwobi is reportedly considering retiring from international football following Nigeria's 2023 AFCON final defeat to Cote D'Ivoire.

Iwobi, who has won 74 caps with the Super Eagles, was integral to the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON campaign in Cote d'Ivoire.

He played all Nigeria's 6 AFCON matches with Moses Simon occasionally subbed on by Jose Peseiro as his replacement.

Iwobi started the Super Eagles AFCON final against Cote D'Ivoire and was the subject of criticism by some Nigeria fans for his underwhelming performance which apparently contributed to the loss against the Ivory Coast.

Reacting to the heavy torrents of criticisms after the tournament, the former Arsenal and Everton midfielder wiped off posts on his social media handle.

It is understood his decision to take down the posts was apparently linked to hate comments and bullying on social media by some fans.

Now, reports from sources reveal Iwobi is considering retiring from international football after the AFCON final loss to Ivory Coast.

Iwobi's imminent retirement plan came hours after he was hosted by Nigeria's Minister of Sports and Youth Development Owan Enoh, who assured him of the Sports Ministry support at the wake of the online attacks.

Iwobi made his Super Eagles debut in 2015 and has been capped 74 times. The Fulham midfielder has scored 10 goals for the Super Eagles. One of his biggest moments for the Super Eagles was firing the team into 2018 World Cup after scoring the match-winner in a make-or-break 2018 World Cup Qualifiers against Zambia.
