2019 African Cup of Nations Champions Algeria parted ways with manager Djamel Belmadi after an early exit from the 2023 African Cup of Nations after getting two points from three games.

The President of the Algerian Football Association, Walid Sadi, confirmed Belmadi's departure, saying, "I met with Djamel Belmadi to talk about the consequences of this bitter exclusion, and we reached an amicable agreement to dissolve the association and break the contract that links the coach with the Algerian Football Federation."

“We thank Djamel for everything he did for the team and wish him good luck in the rest of his career.”

The 47-year-old manager departed after Algeria's defeat to Mauritania on January 23, 2024.

Algeria needed three points to qualify for the tournament, but their lackluster performance made them finish in last place in Group D.

The Algeria national team played a draw in the first match against Angola and the second match against Burkina Faso.

Belmadi became the manager in 2018 and coached them into winning the African Cup of Nations in 2019, defeating Senegal in the final.

They, however, missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification after losing to Cameroon in the play-off contest.

Belmadi became the fourth manager to be relieved of his duties as manager after the AFCON.

Ivory Coast sacked Jean-Louis Gasset, Gambia head coach Tom Saintfiet left his job, and Ghana sacked Chris Hughton after group stage elimination.

Belmadi's record as the manager of Algeria
He was the manager of the Algeria national team for 67 matches. During his tenure, Algeria won 43 matches, drew 17, and lost only seven matches in all competitions.

Algeria scored 142 goals and conceded 53. They had a total of 146 points in all competitions, winning the African Cup of Nations in 2019.

*Belmadi Contract Terms and Salary in Algeria*
His contract was expected to end in 2026 but was prematurely terminated by the Algerian national team.

Before the beginning of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, it was revealed that Belmadi was the highest-paid manager in the tournament, going home with €280,000 per month and an annual salary of €2.5 million.

However, there are no reports about whether he is getting a pay-off after getting sacked.

Why was Algeria eliminated so early in the African Cup of Nations?
The 2019 Champions were one of the favorites going into the tournament, but their inability to put the ball into the opponent's goalpost limited their success.

Despite having Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani, the Algerian team failed to convert clear-cut chances.
