What is the full meaning of Ndlea


The full meaning of NDLEA is National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. It is a federal law enforcement Agency in Nigeria and it was designed for the purpose of curbing Drug related crimes in Nigeria.

The NDLEA was formed the tackle the problem of drug abuse and illegal drugs in the country. Drug trafficking and sales in the country was rapidly increasing when this was adressed. The drug issue was becoming an increasing problem and this lead to the establishment of the agency.

Their goal is to completely eradicate illegal drug trafficking and other illegal substances as well as arrest the perpetrators of this crimes in Nigeria. The NDLEA has 14 directorates, 14 zonal commands, 111 state area commands and 10 Special commands which includes those in the airports and seaports in Nigeria. The agency is also responsible for drug policy and control in the country.

When was NDLEA established?
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency was founded on the 29th of December 1989. It was founded by by Decree No. 48 of the 29th December 1989.


Who established NDLEA?
The NDLEA was established when the issue of illegal drug continued to increase and become a problem in the country. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency was established by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was in the Decree No. 48 of the 29th December 1989.

The current Chairman/chief executive is Brig. Gen Buba Mohammed Marwa (Retd).

NDLEA recruitment
The recruitment process for NDLEA 2023/2024 has ended. The online application were opened for 4 weeks. This was between the 12th March to the 8th of April, 2023. The recruitment process commenced earlier this year and just yesterday, Thursday, October 19, 2023, the successful trainnees numbering 2,500 had their passing out parade. They released the final lists of successful candidates for the 2023 recruitment on the 24th of July, 2023. These successful candidates reported for their trainings and have finally completed it.


The process goes thus
After application, candidates are selected to come for screening. When coming for the screening, they are to come with documents including the following:

  1. An Original copy and photocopy of their credentials in a file. This includes their certificates like Birth, state of origin, NYSC, academics certificates, etc. Failure to bring them means automatic disqualification.
  2. Two recent colour passport photographs of the candidate. Thus passport must be without a hat or a cap.
  3. A pair of white round neck vests, navy blue coloured shorts, white socks and canvass.
  4. copies of the guarantors’ forms must be filled completely
  5. National Identification Card and Bank Verification Number (BVN)
  6. certificate of medical fitness from a government hospital.
  7. Writing materials.

All candidates were were divided into various centers and then batches. Each batch has a date attached for their screening. The candidates who didn't report when they were to report for their screening would also be automatically disqualified. The candidates will also have to undergo a drug integrity test.

The positions opened for the recruitment included
  1. Superintendent Cadre
  2. Narcotic Agent Cadre
  3. Narcotic Assistant Cadre

How many month is ndlea training
NDLEA Training for candidates who joined using their SSCE or NCE last for about 6 months while those using their HND or BSC lasts for about 9 months to 1 full year.

Ndlea latest news today
Om the 19th of October, 2023, about 2,500 trainees filed out for their passing out parade after months of application processes and screening exercise. The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa was present at the ceremony to charge these successful candidates for the 2023/2024 intake.
