Amotekun destroys robbery attack in Osun state
Amotekun, a security agency, destroyed the operations of a robbery attack on vehicles on the Akure-Ilesa Expressway. This was on Friday, March 31st, 2023.
They were able to recover a vehicle loaded with oil.
Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) was also named Operation Amotekun (Amotekun is a yoruba word meaning one who looks like a Leopard)
They were formed in 2020 due to the issues of insecurity in the nation.
The commander of the corps in Osun state revealed that the robbers attacked vehicles in Ilesa-Akure Road and this was happening for almost 1 hour.
They ambushed the vehicles and shot into the air. Many motorists parked their vehicles and ran into the bushes.
It was a motorist who was able to escape their operations who reported this to Amotekun who mobilized themselves and when the robbers saw them coming, they ran away. This was around 11:46pm.
The Amotekun were able to recover a truck loaded with diesel and petrol. The truck had been abandoned by the driver so it was taken to the Amotekun office.
They found a waybill inside the truck and contacted the owner and the driver who fled into the bush.
He mentioned they were traveling from Lagos to Abuja when they encountered the attack and fled.
They released the vehicle to them on Saturday.
The police have praised the Amotekun for their good work.
Drivers carrying expensive items have also been advised against traveling at night and if need be to travel at night, be caution about the roads they take.
