Anambra government shuts down Onitsha school for beating 2 year old pupil


The Anambra State government have ordered for the shut down of a school in Onitsha for beating a 2 year old child who is a pupil at the school.

They announced that this school, Blessed Wisdom Model School, would be shut down immediately. This school is located at Ide Drive in Federal Housing Estate, Onitsha.
They had beaten a 2 year old child and this was what warrantied the school closure.

The state Commissioner for Education, who is Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh was the one who released this announcement

He revealed this yesterday, Saturday this is coming after this 2 year old pupil who has been identified as Ifechukwu Egbuninwe, was reported to have sustained various injuries from this incident.

He revealed that the pupil broke her arm and also had some injuries on her tongue which they are unable to give explanation to.

They revealed that the school proprietress never informed the parents of the pupil about such injuries. They also didn't give any first aid treatment to the pupil when the incident occurred.
They had simply carried on like nothing happened.


The Commissioner wasn't pleased with their actions and he criticized the management of the school.
On Friday, they had also invited the school proprietress to come by and explain what happened.

The woman had refused to show up to this meeting. The parents of the pupil had attended the meeting with their lawyers but the proprietors didn't come.

It was them they made the decision to shut down the school.
They said the school will remain closed until the Governor of the state says otherwise.

A committee consisting of 7 men has also been set up to investigate the matter. They also revealed that the lack of show at the meeting may attract an arrest for the proprietress.
