The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, held a meeting with the community members of Nanka, Awgbu, Oko, Amaokpala, and Ekwulobia. The aim was to discuss the recurring rate of flooding and gully erosion in the state. The theme of the meeting was "Delivering the solution mandate in erosion control."

Governor Soludo reiterated that fighting erosion is a collective responsibility of every community member, and preventive measures should be put in place to bid this environmental hazard goodbye.

In a bid to stop this environmental threat, Soludo is set to sign an executive order prohibiting sand mining near erosion-prone areas in the state. Also, actions are to be taken to pave the state's roads for proper water channelization, build catchment pits and raise awareness campaigns across the states, enlightening people about the new law.

The problems of tackling erosion could be likened to the Chinese proverb, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." The governor urged each community leader to set up a standing committee to kickstart the implementation of their plans in tackling erosions in the state.
