Anambra woman arrested over child labour
A woman in Anambra Street has been arrested recently for child labour. This woman has been identified as Eneh Ogechukwu.
It was the Anambra State Government who arrested this woman.
The woman had used a young girl who is 10 years old to beg for alms. She had been warned against it but she still continued.
This woman who is 27 years old was found to be using this little girl for alms begging.
They caught her at Oyeolisa Ogbunike area of Anambra State.
Ify Obinabo who is the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, was the one who arrested her on Friday. She has now handed her over to the police. She also revealed that the woman will be charged to court.
She says she has given several warnings about suh acts and she will make sure no such offender goes scot-free again.
The suspect was interrogated and she claims she was only trying to help the girl and the girls family. She says she was trying to request for public support to help in the medical treatment of the girl.
She revealed that the girl has a tumor disease and her tummy was becoming bigger and bigger so they need money for surgery.
She also revealed that she began using children from begging last December. She says she has made a total of N100,000. She revealed that the doctor demans N400,000 for the surgery.
After interrogation, they handed her over to the Ogidi Police Division. They also transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The commissioner has also taken the little girl to the hospital for examination and possible treatment.
