Wild and crazy scenes unfolded in a Super Lig clash between Ankaragucu and Rizespor.

In a horrific scene of assault, Ankaragucu club president Faruk Koca vented his spleen on the center-referee Halil Umut Meler after Rizespor netted a late equaliser to share spoils with Ankaragucu in the heated Super Lig clash.

Faruk Koca was obviously furious with the center-referee for allowing the match to be played till the 97th minute before Rizespor netted the equaliser.

The Ankaragucu Vs Rizespor center-referee happened to be victim of Faruk Koca's uncontrolled fury. Koca sparked a widespread backlash as he could be seen in a viral social media footage rushing Meler with blows and jabs, and punching him down to the ground.

Ankaragucu players were also seen savagely kicking Meler while he curled up on the ground before he was rescued by other match officials.

Following the deadly assault, all Super Lig match has been suspended indefinitely with investigations ongoing.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has condemned the assault on Meler saying there is no place for violence in football and sports in general. Turkey president Tayip Erdogan has also condemned the attack.

Now, according to the BBC, Faruk Koca has been arrested with immediate effect by Turkish authorities for prosecution.

Turkey Justice Minister Yilmac Tunc has revealed Koca was arrested for assaulting a public official.

According to reports from Turkish media, Faruk could be imprisoned, banned or fined for the assault.
