Army officers seize transportation of ammunition on its was to Anambra


Officers of the Nigerian Army have seized a transportation of ammunition which was headed for Anambra State in the Southeast side of Nigeria.

This incident occurred on Saturday. They intercepted this syndicate who were transporting some smuggled ammunition. It was a truckload of ammunition they seized.

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Army Onyema Nwachukwu, was the one disclosed this yesterday. He revealed this in a statement that was released.
He revealed that the troops of the army had been acting based on a tip off they had gotten.

They then conducted an in depth stop and search work around Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area. This was in Ogun State

He revealed that it was a truck which was conveying ammunition of various types.
Part of the ammunition they seized includes 720 packets of red star cartridges of 12 calibers. This contained 25 cartridges per packet, which was equal to a total of 18,000 cartridges.

There were also 250 packets of live black cartridges which contained 10 packets each and was equal to a total of 2500 cartridges.

Mr Nwachukwu also revealed that these troops were able to arrest 2 suspects. These suspects have been identified as Eric Seworvor who is from Ghana and Lukman Sani. Lukman was the one driving the truck that they intercepted.

They begun investigation into the case and got to know that these ammunition were imported from Mali.

They had been able to beat other checkpoints prior to this one and were on their way to Onitsha in Anambra State. They were to deliver these ammunition s at Anambra.

He revealed that it would have been a serious thing for the residents of Anambra if these ammunition had gotten to the destination.

He then urged Nigerians to continually support the army in any way they can can information that will help help capture more of these criminals so as to curb such illegal activities.

Taoreed Lagbaja who is The Chief of Army Staff, praised the troops of the Nigerian army for their effort.
