Arsenal have denied Mikel Arteta Abused Porto manager Sergio Conceicao's family after their dramatic penalty shootout victory in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, March 12.
What happened?
Arsenal defeated FC Porto 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw on aggregate, booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2010.
After the shootout, tensions rose high at the Emirates Stadium and the managers were filmed having a heated conversation at the end of the game.
When asked by reporters about the altercation, Conceicao said; "During the game, he (Arteta) turned to the bench, and in Spanish, he insulted my family".
He added; "In the end, I told him to pay attention because who he insulted is no longer with us, and to worry about coaching his team, because due to individual quality, he must do more and better".
However, Arsenal sources have strongly refuted any offensive or abusive words toward the Porto head coach and Arteta has also denied the allegations.
Arsenal have provided strong support for Arteta and questioned whether there is any evidence of him using any insulting language.
When asked about the incident in his post-match press conference Arteta said; "No comment".
Meanwhile, Conceicao, the Portuguese tactician has a history of making reports against opposing managers in reaction to Porto defeats.
He has previously quarreled with Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel following Champions League matches against Manchester City and Chelsea in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have been performing excellently this season under the leadership of Mikel Arteta.
The North London team are currently sitting in first position in the Premier League table and their recent success over Porto in the UEFA Champions League handed them a place in the next round of the competition.
What's next for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta?
After their game against Chelsea was postponed, the Emirates outfits will be seen next in action when they lock horns with title contender Manchester City on March 31, 2024.
In addition, Mikel Arteta's side will know their opponents in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final when the draw is made on Friday, March 15.
