Former Barcelona star Arturo Vidal had criticized Alejandro Garnacho for his celebration after scoring an overhead kick against Everton on November 26, 2023.
Vidal was the first player to criticize the Manchester United youngster. He questioned Garnacho for celebrating like Cristiano Ronaldo, whom the Argentine idolized.
Despite playing with Lionel Messi, Garnacho hit the Siuu celebration in front of the traveling fans.
Vidal said, "The only bad thing, or what I didn’t understand, is why he celebrates like Cristiano.
“He has to make his own name. He is already a great player. It’s good that he is his idol; respect for that, but then he has to make his name.
“How are you going to celebrate a goal and remember it? I don’t know; celebrate it another way. But it was a great goal; it was a great goal.”
The Argentine silenced the aggrieved Everton fans in the third minute of the match after receiving a cross from Diogo Dalot.
Garnacho was highly praised by many, with former Blackburn and Chelsea's Chris Sutton claiming it was the biggest overhead kick of all time in the Premier League.
Sutton said, "We’ve now witnessed the game’s greatest overhead kick. It cannot be beaten in terms of technique or execution."
“This isn’t something you work on in training. It’s a spur-of-the-moment thing."
Apart from the acrobatic head kick by Garnacho, he failed to make any positive impact throughout the game.
He got dispossessed countless times by Ashley Young, who had a good game until he gave out a penalty to Manchester United after tripping Martial in the penalty box.
