Arturo Vidal received a fanfare welcome on his return to Chilean club Colo Colo 17 years after departing the team for European football.

Vidal left his boyhood club to join Bayern Leverkusen on July 1, 2007, for a fee of €5.2 million.

Arturo Vidal blossomed excellently in Europe, playing for the biggest teams and winning the biggest trophies at his disposal.

The 36-year-old has scored 111 goals and provided 83 assists in 686 appearances across all competitions.

The Chilean was welcomed like a king returning to his palace, as he arrived by helicopter, dressed as a knight, and rode on horseback in front of 35,000 hearty supporters beaming with smiles for the unveiling of his return.


Vidal has played for many big teams in his career, including; Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.

Arturo Vidal is regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation due to his remarkable contributions in the middle of the park.

The former Flamengo man is known for his hard-tackling, aggressive, and tenacious style of play.

Vidal's unveiling took place at the Monumental Stadium in Santiago, and he held a sword as he toured the entire turf while greeting fans.

Speaking on his return to the Chilean club, Arturo Vidal said:

“Hello, my people. I'm very happy because you guys sold out the tickets on an exceptional day for me. I'm very nervous. I haven't been able to sleep waiting for this day. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The former Barcelona man also assured the fans that he will give his best in every game he plays, with the aim of winning valuable trophies at the end of the year.

Vidal said: “I hope to repay you in every game I’m in. Surely, we will lift many titles together at the end of the year. Maybe win a Libertadores title, why not?”

Arturo Vidal left Europe in 2022, returning to South America by joining Flamengo on July 18, 2022, on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old exited Flamengo in 2023 to join Athletico Paranaense, where he made 9 appearances, scoring no goal and providing no assist in all competitions.

Vidal has signed a one-year deal with Colo Colo, which runs until the 31st of December 2024.


Meanwhile, Arturo Vidal will be hoping to show his brilliance for his new side when they return to action on February 11, 2024, facing Huachipato in the Chilean Super Cup.

The 2024 top-flight league campaign in Chile commences on February 17, 2024, with Colo Colo visiting Union Espanola.

Huachipato are the defending champions of the Chilean Primera Division, and Vidal will be hoping he can galvanize his side to reclaim the league title, which they won in 2022.
