Barcelona Femeni have confirmed the departure of Super Falcons sensation Asisat Oshoala after a four-and-a-half year stint with the club. The former Women's Super League player, who had stints with Liverpool and Arsenal, is set to open a new chapter on her football journey as she seals a move to United States Women's Soccer League outfit Bay FC.
Barcelona Femeni announced an agreement has been reached between the Spanish and European giants and the US Women's Super League club.
Further details of the agreement reveal Bay FC have paid $150,000 for Oshoala, who has agreed to a two-year contract with the club, including an extension till 2027.
Oshoala was a hit signing for Barcelona Femini back in 2019. She initially joined the club on loan from Chinese club Dalian Qunaijan. The 29-year-old got off to a bang, scoring 7 goals in her 7 appearances for the club. An outstanding short-term loan stint with Spanish giants saw her nail down a permanent contract with the club. She would go ahead to lead Barcelona to the Primeira Division title throughout her four seasons with the club, winning it four times in a row.
Amid her successful domestic run with Barcelona Femeni, she would also see the team through three UEFA Women's Champions League finals, winning two and losing one.
Oshoala added 2 Copa de La Reina, and 3 Supercopa de Espana Femenina titles. Her overdecorated Barcelona Femeni stint glossed with a remarkable individual performance seemed to have faded into the woodworks after last season.
This season, Oshoala had struggled with limited game time with Barcelona, making 14 appearances for the club. With only 8 starts. Consequently, she reportedly pushed for a transfer exit from the club. The reigning African Women's Footballer of The Year was reportedly seen in California, USA, trying to work through her deal away from Barcelona.
Barcelona agreed to Oshoala's exit as they risked losing her on a free transfer next season if a deal could not be brokered this January.
Having sealed the move to the USWL side, the Nigeria Super Falcons star will be hoping to return to top-level performance with the club.
