It all started as a warning. Rumors were gathered that it was only happening to prove a point, others maintained the stance that it might be something more. However, no one knew how long this was bound to last after the initial warning. Nonetheless, The association of the Student Union of Universities has not budged since the beginning of her strike. Let us recall that on the 14th of February, there was an announcement by the Asuu chairman, Professor Osodeke, of the immediate commencement of a National strike that will affect all federal universities in the country. With the release of this news, many students took to social media to complain about the recurrent issue of strikes witnessed in the country year in, and year out.

As time went on, lots of meetings were held and many deliberations were brought forth in order to resolve the issue. However, there has not been any official news of a formal resumption date till now. This has come as a piece of unfortunate news to many students of affected universities who are in their final year. As a result of the strike, a lot of educational aspirations and dreams have been put on hold.

For final-year students of universities who have rounded off their studies and are currently awaiting the official paperwork needed to proceed, this has stalled the process. On the other hand, Freshers who were given admission weeks before the strike began have also been held back at home. There is no easy way to console the hearts of students who are willing to learn but can not do so right now owing to the ongoing strike. These students are the victims of this situation in a lot of ways. As if this is not enough heartbreak for the students, the Asuu chairman has stated that the federal government will need to pay the backlog of 5 months' salary. He insists that if this is not paid, students will not be able to learn all that they missed during this period.

For instance, hostel Accommodations that have been fully paid for will soon be renewed by students who barely lived in these houses as a result of the strike. Upon resumption, whenever that is, Many students will be required to attend lectures and classes which will require extra attention. This is because of the number of hours, days, and weeks they have gone without being in a lecture room. Indeed, it is rather unfortunate for both students and lecturers.

When will this end? When will the educational sector in Nigeria be free from constant issues such as this? A lot of students have turned to entrepreneurship programs, tech, and many other activities to enable them to cope amidst the ongoing strike. However, none of this can fully replace the value of the education they all opted for in the first place. As of today, there has not been any new development or official statements made by the Asuu chairman to call off the strike. Although, students have been required to continue exercising patience till this issue is resolved. The question however is, till when?
