Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is currently the longest-serving manager in Europe.

Simeone was appointed manager of the Madrid-based club on December 23, 2011, and his current contract runs until June 30, 2027.

Diego Simeone has spent 12 years at Atletico Madrid and he has led the club to remarkable success.

Nicknamed “El Cholo”, he has been able to battle gigantic teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona, establishing a third force in Spanish football.

Simeone has guided the club to several successes in his 12 years of managing the club thus far; winning 2 La Liga titles, 2 UEFA Europa League, 2 UEFA Super Cup, and 1 Copa Del Rey amongst others.

He has overseen several players since he was appointed manager of Atletico Madrid, with players like Diego Costa, Koke, Arda Tura, Diego Gordin, and Antoine Griezmann to name a few.

The 53-year-old has put out an ultra-defensive brand of football for most of his managerial career, but it appears like he has become pragmatic in recent years.

The only asterisk in his managerial career thus far is that he hasn't won the UEFA Champions League.

Simeone has guided Atletico Madrid to the final on 2 occasions but lost out painfully to Real Madrid on both occasions.

Diego Simeone still has his sights on achieving more success at the Metropolitano Stadium and he will be hoping that his players deliver the goods.

The Argentine has massive clubs to contend with in the La Liga; Real Madrid and Barcelona, but he has on many times shown that he can lead the club to immense success.

His time at Atletico Madrid has been commendable, particularly given the factors he has had to contend with.

Financially, the Los Colchoneros aren't as strong as Real Madrid, but they have been able to sign amazing names, even youngsters, and turn them into world-class names.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are also one of the most successful teams in La Liga, as they have won 11 La Liga titles, 3 UEFA Europa Leagues, and 10 Copa del Rey amongst others.

They currently sit 3rd on the La Liga table, with 38 points from 18 matches, winning 12 games, drawing 2 and losing 4.

Diego Simeone's side are 7 points behind league leaders and rivals Real Madrid, who have picked up 45 points from 18 matches.

They last won the league title in the 2020/21 season, and they will also be aiming to win the La Liga title this campaign.

Anyway, Atletico Madrid return to action on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, visiting the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi to play against 2nd-place Girona.

That encounter promises to be intriguing, giving the teams that will be in action and their performances this campaign.
