Auto Accident in Osun State claims the lives of 5 students and 1 driver.

A recent auto Accident which occured in Osun State has blamed the lives of 6 people. These victims include 5 final year students of the Ladoke Akintola University, in Ogbomoso and a driver. The incident occurred on Wednesday night and was confirmed on Thursday September 28 2023 in osun state. This accident occurred near Ojutu Bridge, Ilobu.

3 victims of the crash were burnt to death in the accident while 3 more died at the hospital which they had been taken to for treatment. The original number of casualties that had been recorded in this accident was 3 until updates came from the hospital that 3 more victims didn't make it.

These victims had been traveling in a bus along Osogbo/Ifon/Oyo road very late on Wednesday night when the accident occurred. 3 passengers were burnt to death in the crash while 6 others were rescued. It was the men of the Osun Ambulance Scheme who responded to the distress call and rescued these victims.

The accident occured when the bus conveying these passengers he hit a commercial motorcyclist. The driver made attempts to flee from the scene as angry residents of the area were after him. As the driver was rushing away from the scene, he lost control of the vehicle and the bus somersaulted and caught fire.

The Head of Operations of the Osun Ambulance Scheme, Elizabeth Arowosafe, revealed that they had received a distress call around 9:50pm on Wednesday. She shared that they got to know that the bus had been involved in an accident.

She revealed that they responded to the call by 9:53pm and she also got to know that the driver had hit someone and speed off to avoid the mob. The 3 victims burnt to death included the driver, a lady and another guy. They rushed the other 6 victims to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in Osogbo and there wasn't even enough space to accommodate the injured people.

She revealed that the deceased were burnt beyond recognition and it was one of the injured students who contended that they were students returning from Erin-Ijesa waterfall for an excursion. She also gave the names of the deceased. Later on, the Head of Operations of Osun Ambulance Service, Arowosafe, confirmed that 3 more had passed on at the hospital. This was the following day, on Thursday.

Only 3 survived this incident and 2 of them have been transferred to UCH in Ibadan while the last one is still at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Agnes Ogungbemi has also confirmed the accident. She stated the crash was caused by violation of speed limit and this had been the caused of the loss of control of the vehicle.
