Nicolo Fagioli has extended his contract with Juventus despite serving a ban from Italian Football Federation FIGC for illegal betting.
FGIC clampdown on Nicolo Fagioli following investigations into his illegal gambling behavior.
Fagioli was whisked out of Italy national team with his national team pal and Newcastle United player Sandro Tonali, who was equally under investigations for the same allegations.
After due diligence by the authorities on the betting scandal, Nicolo Fagioli was hit with a seven-month ban which will expire in May 2024. He will miss the rest of the season with Juventus but will be back to action in May 2024.
His compatriot Sandro Tonali got a longer ban as he was hit with a 10-month ban which will expire in August 2024.
The two players were both indicted for illegal betting in Italy. While Fagioli served his ban in Italy Sandro Tonali is serving his ban at Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Italian Football Federation FIGC had to write FIFA to extend Sandro Tonali's ban worldwide before the former AC Milan midfielder could serve his penalty in England.
Since the report of Sandro Tonali's ban, Newcastle United have fretted and threatened lawsuit against AC Milan for purportedly colluding with Sandro Tonali to cover up the betting scandal before selling the player to them.
However, it is still unclear whether AC Milan learnt of Tonali's betting addiction before selling him to Newcastle United.
While Newcastle United have struggled to come to terms with Tonali's bans as he was a key member of Eddie Howe's squad, it appears Nicolo Fagioli is head-on with his career with Juventus despite the ban.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Nicolo Fagioli has just signed a new contract extension with Juventus till 2028 despite the ban. Juventus has shown full solidarity and support to the player despite the ban.
The new contract is a big boost to the Italian star as he will continue with his career with the Serie A giants till 2028 when he returns to action in May 2024.
