Barcelona are plotting a move for Manchester United legend David De Gea.

De Gea has been a free agent since June 2023 when his Manchester United contract expired. He has had offers from top clubs in Europe but is yet to broker a deal with any club for a new challenge.

According to Transfer Live, Barcelona are plotting a move for David De Gea in what could be a big reprieve for the out-of-contract footballer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona, who are grappling with financial insolvency, are hoping to boost their goalkeeping options at the end of the season with De Gea emerging as their number one target.

De Gea unceremoniously left Manchester United after 12 years at the club. It has been seven months since went out of contract at Old Trafford with no new deal so far.

The Spaniard's selective bent on offers flooding his table has delayed him from returning to action. After his Man United exit, Inter Milan were the first club to move for the Spaniard in what would have been more of swap deal with Onana leaving to Old Trafford.

De Gea reportedly fell out with the Serie A giants on their wage offer far below what he bagged at Old Trafford. Talks collapsed after the two parties failed to reach agreement with Inter Milan going for Bayern Munich's Yann Sommer as Onana replacement.

Bayern Munich were also reportedly interested in a move for David De Gea to boost their goalkeeping options but a deal could not happen as well.

As per the Sun, Manchester United wanted to move for David De Gea's return on a short-term deal to stand in for Andre Onana who was bound to join Cameroon for 2023 AFCON. Nothing materialized to the effect.

Al-Nassr also moved for De Gea with a bogus wage offer but the 32-year-old turned down the offer despite a possible reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sources close to the player have reveal he wants to stay in Europe and particularly in his native country Spain.

Barcelona's interest could be the best offer for the legendary goalie to settle in his homeland and as well return to European football.
