Barcelona are constrained from making needed reinforcements due to financial fair play regulations.

This is according to the club's sporting director, Deco, and he claims that the financial fair play rules are also affecting many clubs.

Barcelona have found it hard to sign players in recent years, with the club battling to get out of the financial doldrums that they are currently in.

This financial debacle at his earliest stages resulted in several unfortunate situations for the club, with the need to balance the books being evident.

One move that the club might or might not rue for years to come is allowing Lionel Messi to exit the club due to their inability to meet his wage demands.

Anyway, speaking on Barcelona being unable to sign players due to FFP concerns, Deco said:

“Financial Fair Play is affecting many clubs and we’re not able to complete any signing now, it’s the reality”.

The Blaugrana side have been linked to several players in the 2024 January transfer window, including; Julian Alvarez of Manchester City, and Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund to mention a few.

These players will not exit their respective clubs for cheap, as they are an important component of these teams.

Deco appears to have understood and as such, he has made it clear that it will be difficult for the club to make signings due to financial fair play concerns.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian also aired his thoughts on Xavi Hernandez's position as manager of Barcelona being shaky, saying that the Spaniard's “job is not at risk”.

Xavi was appointed manager of Barcelona on November 6, 2021, and his current deal with the club runs until June 30, 2025.

The former manager of Qatari club, Al Sadd SC, led the Catalan-based club to the La Liga title in the 2022/23 season and he did so in impressive fashion.

However, the 2023/24 season has been more bruises than roses, with Barcelona sitting 4th on the log, amassing 41 points from 19 matches thus far.

Xavi Hernandez's side remain in every other competition that they are battling in, including; the UEFA Champions League and Copa Del Rey.

However, On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Barcelona were battered by Real Madrid 4-1 in the Spanish Super Cup final, a defeat that left the club in a distressed state.

Speaking regarding the position of Xavi as manager of the Blaugarana side, Deco said:

“Xavi’s job is not at risk. It’s nonsense. Xavi has full confidence from all of us at Barcelona, for sure.

“We’re sad but one defeat will not change our plan”.

Barcelona return to action on Thursday, January 18, 2024, facing Primera Federation club, Unionistas de Salamanca.

They will be hoping to get back to winning ways with that fixture, before visiting Real Betis on January 21, 2024, in a Matchday 21 La Liga action.
