Bayer Leverkusen have wrapped up their fairytale rise to the summit of German league football on a brilliant note.

The Die Werkself preserved their unbeaten record as they eased to a 2-1 victory over Augsburg in the Bundesliga final matchday.

Nigeria attacking sensation Victor Boniface and Andrich’s goals made the difference as the Westphalia-based invincibles aced to a deserved Bendeslliga victory at the Bay Arena.

Despite securing the Bundesliga title with five league matches to spare, it was not a dead rubber clash for Xabi Alonso heading into the clash against Augsburg.

The Spaniard had the team’s unbeaten record to preserve against the Bundesliga giant-killers, known for their strong showings against big sides.

It was a bright start for the Bundesliga champions. Just twelve minutes into the game, Victor Boniface paved the way for victory, scoring to race the home side into the lead.
