Bayern Munich 2023/24 Bundesliga title hopes suffered a heavy blow as they stumbled to shock defeat to Bochum at the Vonobia Vurhstadion.

It was another disappointing outing for the Bavarians, who needed victory to get back to gears on the Bundesliga title race after settling for a 3-0 defeat to challengers Bayer Leverkusen in their last outing.

Also, pressure had tanked up on Thomas Tuchel after the team recorded their second consecutive defeat away to Lazio in Champion's League round 16 first leg.

Against Bochum at the Vonovia Vurhstadion, the Bavarians needed nothing less from victory to restore fans confidence and hopes of staying put in the La Liga title race.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen had extended the lead on the Bundesliga top to 8 points after a 2-1 away victory over Heidenheim.

As expected, Bayern Munich started the game on the front foot dominating proceedings and advancing with intensity into the opponent's area.

The Bundesliga title hopefuls wielded 70% of the possession, fired 27 shots with 10 on target while the hosts managed 13 shots with 4 on target.

Jamaal Musiala raced the away side into the lead in the 14th minute after a fiery start but Bochum fought back to level terms in the 38th minute through Asano.

A minute before the break, Shlotterberg raced the hosts into a surprise lead against the run of play.

A freaky second half saw Bayern Munich made all efforts to find an equaliser all to no avail. They were dealt a heavy blow when Dayot Upamecano was sent off in the 83rd after bagging his second yellow card and causing a penalty which was converted by Stoger to extend the lead for the hosts.

Despite playing 10 men, the Bavarians were able to cut down the goal arrears with Harry Kane's stoppage time goal. It ended 3-2 with Bayern Munich suffering their second straight Bundesliga defeat and drifting 8 points behind Bayer Leverkusen on the Bundesliga title race.
