Benue Police arrest four child traffickers and rescue abducted child.


The officers of Benue State Police Command have arrested 4 suspected child traffickers in the state. They have also rescued a child who had been abducted.

These officers were able to raid and take out a child trafficking syndicate which is located in Makurdi and it was there they made these arrests.

These suspects were allegedly running a child trafficking syndicate in Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) camps and some other areas in the state.
They were also involved in recruiting some pregnant girls who delivered babies that were sold for a large amount

It was Commad’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene who revealed this in a statement that was released.

During the operation, they rescued a child that had been abducted. This child had been reported missing by her parents.
They saw the child in the hideout of the these traffickers and rescued her.

The command had gotten credible intelligence and proceeded to carry out an intense surveillance of the area before they went on the operation and raided the place.

Out of the four suspects they arrested, one is the wife of the kingpin of the gang named Friday. This kingpin is currently on the run and efforts are being made to locate him.

She said they had been given information about some Child Traffickers operating around this area when they began their investigation and surveillance.

Those arrested have been identified and they are
  1. Member Friday who is the Kingpin’s wife.
  2. Stephen Terungwa
  3. Sughter Akegh
  4. Atom Gideon.
The suspects have been interrogated and they have confessed to their crimes. They revealed that they were involved in recruiting pregnant girls who delivered babies and were being paid a sum of N150,000 for each baby that was delivered.
