Boat accident in Lagos state leads to death of 2

A recent boat accident in Lagos state has led to the death of 2 persons. These victims have been identified as Teenagers and their names are Misturat Okunbanjo and Azeezat Amoo. The 2 of them have been confirmed dead after the incident occured. Both of the victims who died are females. The tragic incident happened on Thursday evening, October 26, 2023 in Isawo community, located in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The boat had capsized leading to the death of these young persons.

They weren't the only ones involved in the accident; however , the others were rescued alive. 4 people had been rescued from this same incident. There had been a total of 6 people on board when the incident happened. This occurred around 8pm that fateful day and was reported to the authorities around 8:16pm. They immediately dispatched a rescue team to rescue these victims from the accident.

It was the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola who revealed this. She shared this in a statement which was released on Friday. She stated that the boat had been on board from Olorunsogo to Isawo.

In her statement, she said “The accident was reported at 8:16 hours on Thursday, prompting the deployment of the Search and Rescue Crew from the agency. The crew collaborated with locals who were familiar with the terrain. Despite the darkness, the search continued until late at night when it was suspended. Four of the six victims on board the capsized boat crossing from Olorunsogo to Isawo were rescued. The crew resumed their efforts in the early hours of Friday to continue the search. Unfortunately, they recovered the bodies of two females, identified as Misturat Okunbanjo, 18, and Azeezat Amoo, 16. The recovery operation concluded at approximately 10:10 hours.”

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service who is Margaret Adeseye, has expressed her sadness over this incident. She also added that people should beware and ensure they take safety precautions when traveling by sea.

This isn't the first incident that would be claiming the lives of many people. There has been news of boating accidents in Nigeria that have claimed the lives of many. Such incidences are always tragic and sad to hear about.
