The federal government has approved additional funds to support Nigeria's military campaign against Boko Haram and Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP).

A statement by the army's public relations director, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, issued on Saturday confirmed the approval.

Defense Minister Bashir Magashi announced on Friday during his visit to the troops of the Joint Task Force Northeast Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

The retired general said more equipment and logistics to improve operations would help further the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

Magashi was with the Chief of Defense Staff Leo Irabor, the department heads and the Chief of Defense Intelligence (CDI) in the operations headquarters of the theater command.

The team recently began a collaborative assessment of ongoing operations to monitor progress and get first-hand information on achievements, challenges, and requirements.

“We do everything we can to provide you with all the necessary resources so that you can do your work professionally and to the best of our ability. We have seen your commitment and are proud of you, ”said Magashi.

The minister thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his support and was optimistic for the imminent success with continued fight against the terrorists.

Magashi received memoirs from the OPHK theater commandant, Major General Christopher Musa, and other senior officers.

He also ordered two new buildings as staging quarters for the officers of the Joint Task Force Headquarters.
