Fernando Diniz has been shown the exit door as Brazil national team coach following a dismal run in CONCACAF 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

The handwriting was on the wall after Brazil suffered their first home defeat in World Cup qualifiers to continental rivals and world champions Argentina.

Fernando Diniz did not have a solid foot at the Brazil dugout and was set to be sacked even if the result improved.

Diniz was splitting his managerial role with Brazil with club duties. He still retained his job as Fluminense manager while taking up the Selecao job.

Also, he was contracted on interim basis following the resignation of former manager Tite after the team crashed out in the quarterfinals of 2022 World Cup, losing to 2018 finalists Croatia on penalty shootouts.

While still incharge of Brazil national team, Fernando Diniz won Copa Libertadore with Fluminense and reach the final of FIFA Club World Cup where they lost to Manchester City.

Despite his successes with Fluminense, Diniz came under pressure as Brazil struggle on the international scene.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was strongly linked with the Brazil job. Ancelotti was a prime target to take over Fernando Diniz.

However, in shock move, Ancelotti decided to extend his Real Madrid contract. It was thought he will link up for the Brazil job when his previous contract expired.

Following his decision to renew commitment with Real Madrid, Daily Mail reports Brazil Football Federation President Ednaldo Rodriguez decided to sack the Fluminense manager for a new hand that will take charge of the team till 2026 World Cup.

The search for a new manager has begun with the FA expected to name a new manager in a few days. Another Brazil manager Dorivial Junior of Sao Paulo is being tipped to replace Fernando Diniz.
