Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Brentford have been charged by the Football Association for the actions of their players during their clash on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

The Villains crept to a 2-1 win over Thomas Frank's side, with goals from Alex Moreno and Ollie Watkins in the 77th and 85th minute respectively.

Brentford took the lead in the 45th minute through Keane Lewis-Potter, but it eventually turned out to be of no effect on the game.

Watkins' celebration just 5 minutes before the expiration of regulation time, apparently infuriated some Brentford players, and the encounter boiled over at the culminating stage.

Boubacar Kamara was also sent off for Aston Villa in additional time of the 2nd half for shoving Brentford's Yehor Yarmoliuk in the face.

Both teams have till Friday, December 22, 2023, to give their response over the verdict or fully accept the punishment for their unprofessional showing.

A statement from the FA reads: “Brentford allegedly failed to ensure that their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 85th minute.”

Aston Villa and Brentford were lambasted for their inability to caution their players and also control their players from turning the game into a battleground.

The FA added: “It's further alleged that the club failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 98th minute.

"Aston Villa also allegedly failed to ensure that their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 85th minute.”

Meanwhile, two red cards were brandished in the game, 10 other players were booked, while Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Unai Emery of Aston Villa were also cautioned.

Villa's Kamara was dismissed from the game, while Bees defender Ben Mee was also handed his marching orders.

Aston Villa have had an outstanding start to the 2023/24 season, as they occupy the 3rd spot on the league table, with 38 points from 17 matches thus far, and they are also level on points with Liverpool.

Unai Emery has done an incredible job as manager of the Villains, and supporters of the club will be hoping that he can lead them to bigger heights this season.

Meanwhile, Brentford sit 12th on the Premier League table, with 19 points from 17 matches.

Thomas Frank has been able to help the club remain in the top flight, and they are aiming for bigger heights this campaign.

They have been able to fare nicely in the absence of striker, Ivan Toney, who was suspended for his involvement in gambling in May 2023.

However, their recent form hasn't been impressive, as they have only picked up 1 win in their last 6 matches, losing the other 5 matches.
