Brentford manager Thomas Frank has expressed that he doesn't want to let go of forward Ivan Toney.
Toney, who is currently under suspension for his involvement in gambling continues to be linked with several teams in England, including; Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Ivan Toney was suspended from football in May 2023, after he was found guilty of breaking FA rules regarding betting.
The Englishman was slammed with an eight-month ban, which should elapse in January 2024.
Speaking on the importance of Toney and what he could offer the Bees, Thomas Frank said:
“I don’t want to lose Ivan Toney. I hope, and think, he’ll be a Brentford player on February 1”.
“For sure Ivan is fit and probably even more ambitious to get success. I’m convinced he will be absolutely on it.”
The 27-year-old has been menacing for Brentford since joining the club from Peterborough on September 1, 2020, for a fee of €5.6 million.
Toney is one of the best strikers in England, and he has been admired over time by European clubs, particularly Premier League teams.
Before he was suspended in May 2023, Ivan Toney had scored an impressive 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Thomas Frank has had to tactically marshall his side, in order to miss the absence of the former Newcastle United forward.
Brentford signed Neal Maupay on loan from Everton on September 1, 2023, to deputize in place of Toney.
Maupay hasn't been able to hit the ground running at the GTech Community Stadium, scoring just 1 goal and providing 3 assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.
Neal Maupay has had two stints at Brentford, with the latest of such spells being the current one.
The Frenchman during his first stint at the English club, scored 42 goals and provided 16 assists in 103 appearances in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Ivan Toney has netted 68 goals and provided 21 assists in 124 appearances for Brentford in all competitions.
The Bees have offered him immense support since he was suspended from football for 8 months, and they know how massive a player he is.
Brentford need a focal man up front, who would be delivering goals with reckless abandon, as they hope to achieve relative success in the top flight.
Thomas Frank's side sit 11th on the Premier League table, with 16 points from 13 league matches.
The Bees finished 9th in the league last campaign, and they will be battling to continue remaining in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Brentford entertain Luton Town, in their next encounter on December 2, 2023, a Matchday 14 Premier League action.
Anthony Taylor will be the referee in charge of the clash, and the Bees will be looking to sting newly-promoted Luton Town.
