Brighton have signed Brazilian center-back Igor Julio from Fiorentina for a transfer fee worth £14.5 million. The 25-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Premier League club.
Julio becomes Brighton’s fifth signing of the summer after Joao Pedro, Bart Verbruggen, James Milner, and Mahmoud Dahoud joined the club.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi moves his attention to Julio after Chelsea insisted that Levi Colwill is not for sale. Brighton’s £40 million bid for Colwill was rejected by Chelsea.
The Chelsea defender was an important player for the Seagulls last season while on loan at the club. He helped them qualify for the Europa League and secured them a semi-final spot in the FA Cup, where they were defeated by Manchester United.
Julio started his career in the Austrian League with RB Salzburg before moving to SPAL. He joined Fiorentina in 2020, where he made 110 appearances for the Serie A team.
