Buhari, Osinbajo, Obasanjo and others mourn the late General Diya

The President, General Muhammadu Buhari and others mourn the death of the late General Oladipo Diya who passed on last Sunday on the 26th of March, 2023. The news was announced by his son, Prince Oyesinmilola.

The late General was the former Chief of General Staff in General Sani Abacha’s military regime.

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement by Mr Femi Adesina who is his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, described the late General as bold and courageous. He spoke of his dedication to serving the country.

He mentioned that the late General was known for his discipline, intelligence and organizational skills.

He also commended his loyalty and love to the country of Nigeria.

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo released a statement via his twitter account to mourn the death of the general. He described him as an illustrious son of Odogbolu in Ogun State. He mentioned that he was a man who showed love and commitment to the nation.


Former president Obasanjo also spoke on the death of the General. He said his death depleted the ranks of the nation’s leadership.

He described his life as a great success and mentioned how his accomplishments will always be remembered.

Another of Nigeria's former Presidents, Goodluck Jonathan has also spoken on the loss of General Diya.

He mentioned that Diya served the country well by fighting for the country's unity. He also said people will always remember his efforts.

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the incoming president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some others have also mourned Diya’s passing.
