In 2024, the world of football will be celebrating 122 years since the introduction of the penalty area, the iconic 18-yard box that is central to the excitement of football.

This area represents a boundary between hope and expectation, where attackers have a greater chance of scoring and defenders face the consequences of their mistakes.

It is the ultimate objective of most teams to prevent their opponents from entering the penalty area.

Some teams prioritize allowing low-quality shots from a distance, while others take the risk of playing a high line and potentially giving up high-quality counter-attacks.

Regardless of the strategy, having a player who can consistently and accurately operate within the penalty box is crucial for a team's success.

Meanwhile, it’s no surprise to see Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table this season, thanks to the exceptional coaching skill of Jurgen Klopp and the unflinching devotion seen from the players, especially Mohammed Salah who has been causing more threat in the opposition box.

On the other hand, England superstar Bukayo Saka has been highly instrumental in Arsenal's current performance since the season began.

It's a sign of relief for any coach to have a daring footballer such as Saka in his team who mostly causes headaches for defenders of the opposition club.

These two pace-setting teams, Liverpool and Arsenal have exactly been a sort of threat to opposing clubs in the Premier League this season.

Mohammed Salah has the most penalty area touches in the past 3 EPL Seasons

It is still uncertain how the 2023-24 Premier League season will conclude, but it appears likely that Liverpool will have their best season yet based on their current performance that has earned them the first place in the league table.

If they continue at this level or improve, the impact of Egyptian forward Mohammed Salah will be considered one of the greatest in the club's modern history.

Salah leads Liverpool's goal chart in the Premier League this season with 15 goals and has provided 10 assists for the Reds.

Additionally, he has the most penalty area touches with 841 over the past three Premier League seasons.

With the most touches inside the opponent's box, it is also reasonable to assume that Liverpool ranks highly in statistics for goals scored inside the box.

Notably, Liverpool and Arsenal are the teams that have scored the most goals inside the box this season, with 56 goals each.

Bukayo Saka has the second most touches in the penalty box

Mikel Arteta is known for his possession-focused style of football, with a focus on building up play and creating scoring chances.

Last season, his team had the most touches inside the opposition box, showcasing their ability to advance on the field and generate opportunities.

Bukayo Saka has made 673 touches in the opposition penalty area over the past three seasons, the second highest in the Premier League, with Mohamed Salah in first place.

However, the 22-year-old winger has only managed to score 13 goals and create 7 assists for Arsenal this season.

This shows that Saka has been in the right positions to create chances, but his teammates need to locate him more effectively.

The key question, however, is whether Arsenal has been able to convert these opportunities into enough goals.

Arsenal are currently second to Liverpool in the number of goals scored this season, with 62 goals.

Arteta must analyze the team's tactical approach to convert more touches in the opposition box into scoring opportunities and ultimately more goals if they hope to lift the Premier League Cup this season.

Meanwhile, it is difficult to predict which team will come out on top in the ongoing 2023/24 Premier League season, especially considering the narrow margin between the current top three teams.
